Headaches and neck problems

Headaches are something most of us are familiar with - whether it's the occasional alcohol-induced fog or a more debilitating weekly occurrence.  But did you know that problems in the neck are estimated to be the cause of headaches in 18% of the population?

Other causes include migraine, cluster headaches, tension headaches and serious pathology.? ?

Stiffness in the joints and tissues of the spine can cause headaches, with the patient typically experiencing a dull ache or pain on one or both sides of the head or face.

Accompanying symptoms can include nausea, blurred vision, dizziness or light-headedness.  These headaches may be occasional or frequent and can last from a few hours to a few days.

Patients (more often female than male) usually have a long history of headaches and may have visited their GP many times over the years.

Symptomatic treatment using painkillers is often unsatisfactory in the long term.? ?If you have headaches like this, it could be that the root cause of the problem is in the neck.

An appointment with a physiotherapist would enable them to assess and test your neck to establish the presence of any abnormalities in the spine which could then be corrected with appropriate manual therapy techniques.

Relief from your headaches could just be an appointment away!  ?
