Physiotherapy

At Blizard Physiotherapy we use the Maitland Concept, regardless of whether it’s a sport injury, or whether you are having difficulty with daily tasks, the approach is the same.

The Maitland Concept of manual therapy is a form of physiotherapy carried out by specially trained and highly qualified physiotherapists.

It is a therapy with a specific approach involving detailed examination, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of conditions which cause pain and movement problems.

As is clearly implied by the term ‘manual therapy’ this is a ‘hands on’ treatment.

Back problems, for example, can be precisely identified and the joints of the spine specifically mobilised and treated.

This type of therapy is also very effective in the treatment of other joints. Hip, knee and shoulder problems can, for example, be treated to reduce pain and improve movement and function.

There is an endless list of problems that we treat. Put simply if you are in pain, your stiff, your body won’t do what you want, or you would like to look after it better, then we can help. Your body is capable of much more than you think, you just need help to see and feel this. We offer some of the following services:

We will explain what the problem is on the first session and we will together devise any treatment plan that you need, which will involve how we can help, how you can help yourself and how long this may take. If we can’t help we will also tell you.

We are predominantly manual therapists, which means we use our hands to get you better, so we won’t sit you on a machine or give you lots of exercises hoping you get better. We will continually assess and reassess to make sure that each treatment is effective and you will see and feel it working within each session.
