Physiotherapy News

Jenny Blizard’s one hour physiotherapy appointment service is a huge success!

Jenny’s treatment sessions were extended to an hour from November 23rd, and although her existing clients still have the option of having a 30 minute appointment with her or any of our expert physiotherapists, we are seeing an increasing number opting for the longer time slot to ensure they maximise the time spent at the clinic, particularly those travelling long distances to utilise our services.

Women’s Health services at the clinic in demand

Physiotherapy in pregnancy

This month we focussed on how physiotherapy can help women’s health during pregnancy, helping ladies to continue their fitness regime - or even begin to exercise - safely during the nine months of gestation.
Jenny Blizard covered all the issues involved in her Athletics Weekly article, highlighting the fact that, providing your pregnancy is a healthy one, and that your doctor and midwife has run the relevant medical checks, it is usually a very positive experience to be able to carry on a manageable, albeit reduced, level of activity during the months when you are with child.

Remember too that our Women’s Health experts offer a confidential advice service, and are also available to take free group talks. For more info email: jenny@blizardphysiotherapy.co.uk

Elite Team Blizard triathletes and runners train hard & race even harder!

Mike Chadwick in racing action

Team Blizard elite triathletes, Tom Morris and Mike Chadwick, have been putting in the miles this month, and have written a number of blogs about their training and racing exploits on their website www.blizardtrirt.blogspot.co.uk.
Tom details in his blogs his excellent 10th place in this month’s Percy Pud 10k, as well as highlighting his progress shown in his latest bike lactate threshold test at the clinic, while Mike writes about his impressive 6th place finish at the Bolsover 10k in horrendous conditions.
Dave Tune and Jenny Blizard also raced very strongly, with Dave finishing just behind Tom at Percy Pud, while Jen finished second lady at Bolsover.
Finally, our elite Team Blizard runner, Fiona Davies proved her place on the team once again with a fantastic second place at Percy Pud, and a third place at the South Yorkshire cross country championships.

MARATHON PREPARATIONS BEGIN - GET YOURSELVES BOOKED IN FOR A LACTATE TEST!

If you are set to race a marathon in the Spring, ensure your training gets the best results for you by booking yourself in for a lactate threshold test at the clinic.

With less than four months until the major UK marathons, now is the time to get your individual heart rate zones set up for you as part of our now famous lactate threshold testing service here at Blizard Physiotherapy.

With the high mileage involved in marathon training, it is essential to make sure you train at the right intensity and duration to maximise your potential, reducing your chances of injury or illness, and increasing your chances of a PB dramatically!

We also offer a three tier coaching service for runners - check out the coaching details here: http://www.blizardphysiotherapy.co.uk/section795300.html and our fees here: http://www.blizardphysiotherapy.co.uk/section809980.html, or go to our website and visit the relevant sections.

INJURY PREVENTION

Whether you’re planning on upping your mileage for a marathon, or you’re a triathlete getting ready for the forthcoming 2016 season, or you just want to safely increase your training for a new challenge, make sure you build up sensibly to prevent an injury curtailing your big plans.

We also recommend you book yourself in for a physiotherapy assessment session with one of our experts, be it Caroline Hennigan, Matthew Newton, Kate Stowers, Jenny Blizard or Terri Coates, to ensure any niggles you maybe experiencing are addressed before you embark on your new block of training with confidence.

Elite GB sprinter Kristie Edwards does just this on a regular basis, visiting the clinic to iron out any imbalances or niggles before they develop into full blown injuries, ensuring she can compete at the highest level, fulfilling her huge potential!
