Team Blizard have been sweating it out through the summer's first heat wave with victories and podium finishes across the country!

While our Normanby Duathlon events dominated yesterday’s race report, we still had plenty of impressive performances over the weekend, as well as a number that have slipped through our reporter’s net that deserve a big up!

On the first properly hot weekend of the summer so far, Team Blizard Elite’s Fiona Davies was in action in the mid-day sun yesterday at Solihull’s track for the Masters Inter-Area Challenge.

Competing in near 30 degree heat, Fiona was up against the very best of the UK’s veteran athletes, and, remembering our star track runner hasn’t long been back in action, she excelled once again.

Representing Northern Masters AC, she ran 5:07 in the 1500m to finish third, followed not long after by a fantastic second place in the 3000m in 10:59.11.

Also competing on the Masters scene was Bushfield’s consistently excellent Eric Winstone, who took on the challenge of a 10k at Luton in intense sunshine. Eric fought off many battles from strong rivals to win his V60 category, a fantastic result for the lactate-tested athlete!

Over at the Laxton 10k, there were storming results from our own Dave Sedgwick, Brian Rose and Chris Slight. 'Disco' Dave ran impressively in tropical conditions to finish third overall in 35:54, while Brian was never far behind when he clocked up 36:46 for fifth, and Chris was a lucky 13th in 38:15 - fantastic representation of Team Blizard boys!

Doncaster’s supremely talented V55 athlete, Caroline Wheelhouse, currently ranked second in her age group in the whole of Great Britain for 10m and half marathon, ran the Croxby Crawl in the Lincs Wolds recently, finishing a brilliant second lady overall in 64:24! She said the testing course had been tough, but she loved the old-fashioned nature of the race, with its friendly atmosphere.

Returning to the multi-discipline events, Ian Micklethwaite took on the PSUK Standard Distance Triathlon Championships at Ullswater last weekend. He tackled a very tough swim in choppy conditions, a hilly and challenging ride in the wind, and did well to push on strongly to the finish on the run - great racing Ian!
