November 21/22nd 2015: Team Blizard out-performed themselves yet again at Clowne, Norwich, Peterborough, Ely and Nottingham this weekend

Article text
Following on from our first race report of the weekend, where we revelled in the fantastic muddy fun enjoyed by hundreds of Team Blizard athletes at the Normanby Hall Adventure Race, there was plenty more action elsewhere, with PBs, race wins and strong performances by all at Clowne, Norwich, Ely, Peterborough, and Nottingham.

Mike ‘High Tower’ Chadwick’s bronze medal winning performance at Normanby Hall was even more impressive considering he had tackled the gruelling third and final race in the One Step Beyond off road duathlon series the previous day!

Clearly a class athlete, proving his worthiness on our elite racing team in just one weekend, his second place in the third race in the series at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham on Saturday meant he had scooped enough points to win the series overall!

Mike was deservedly presented with a hard earned £250 to reward his efforts, doing us all proud back at Blizard HQ!

His full race report for the whole weekend can be read here, along with Tom Morris’s entertaining event blog: http://blizardtrirt.blogspot.co.uk

Next up in racing action was another branch of Team Blizard taking on the undulating course of the Clowne Half Marathon, with PBs and stunning performances all round in similarly arctic weather.

Clowne’s own Lewis Banton was first home in an incredible fourth overall and a massive PB to boot, knocking nearly a minute and a half off his previous best with a stunning 77:03!

The most stoic runner of the day award has to go to Askern’s fast improving Kelly Raven, who, despite feeling ill, managed to run her second fastest time ever! Her 1:34:20 placed her 7th woman, and wasn’t far off a PB in less than ideal conditions - well done Kelly!

Retford AC’s Tammy Haywood recently featured in an article focussing on her improvements made under Jenny and Dave’s guidance, and ran a big personal best of 1:43:51, while Malc Stapleton also ran a lifetime best for the half marathon distance with 89:34!

Placing highly once again was Rotherham’s Ian Whyman, who impressed as always with a glittering 82:14 to finish 17th overall, while Tickhill’s Mike Clement’s 1:35:44 is his first recorded half marathon time on the Power of 10 - not a bad way to kick off your distance running career Mike!

Over in Norwich, top club runner and representing Team Blizard in style was the home city’s Matt Bidwell, who easily made the podium with a storming 70:39 to take third place overall.

His time was a mere 8 seconds shy of his PB, ranking him 16th in the whole of the UK for his V40 age group. However, as he joins the V45 category next year, his Norwich result would place him at the top of the rankings if he can repeat this astonishing performance a year older - amazing Matt!

Finally, there were several hundred Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire athletes taking on the Hereward multi-terrain relays and the surprisingly hilly Ely 5k yesterday, and our own Team Blizard representatives Yvonne Scarrott and Ruth Jones from Nene Valley Harriers were in fine form once again.

Yvonne won her age category with a superb 1:25:16 clocking for the challenging course, helping her team finish third ladies’ crew on the day!

Over in Ely, Ruth won the city’s 5k race, bagging herself a massive Christmas pudding, a Santa hat and her fastest time since May, posting a confidence boosting 19:45 result ahead of the impending Percy Pud 10k!

Keep On Running you amazing Team Blizard crew!
