Heading up our elite Blizard racing team’s triathlete section is the clinic’s own experienced triathlon and swimming analysis coach, and top athlete in his own right, Jono Frary, who has represented GB across the multi-sport scene for many years and will continue to do so in 2016.

The Level 3 triathlon coach has attained the highest standard possible following five years coaching some of the best triathletes in the region and nationwide, with every athlete he has supported achieving a home country or GB vest.

Jono will draw on this success as he leads the team in his role as team coach and athlete, drawing upon his own considerable international competition experience.

His fellow Blizard elite team mates, Tom Morris and Mike Chadwick, will benefit further from his existing coaching service, and have already enjoyed one of Jono’s famous swimming analysis sessions in Bircotes, to help draw up their training schedules to prepare them for the forthcoming triathlon season.

Jono explained how he will be using Tom and Mike’s swimming analysis results to help them to progress ever higher:

“It’s great to have a specific swim plan for each of them, as they have very different focuses. Although technique is clearly important, there are other aspects we will be concentrating on - that’s one of the unique parts of our service - the concentration on the physiological aspect of swimming, and monitoring the body in race simulated conditions through heart rate and stroke analysis.”

Jono will head up Tom and Mike’s gold coaching package through Blizard physiotherapy, with expert guidance also provided by former GB international runner, Dave Tune, and ex-elite cyclist, Kevin Dawson, to ensure every triathlon discipline is worked on to a high level.

He is also keen to emphasise his own personal reasons for joining the team, as although he will be an essential wheel in the coaching cogs of the elite tier of athletes, he is fiercely pursuing his own triathlon ambitions

He said: “I will continue to train and compete at a high level, building on achievements such as this summer’s highlight, when Tom and I secured top ten finishes at the European Championships.

“I love to train and enjoy the lifestyle that the sport brings - it is an outlet for my competitive nature. Over the next two years, I am looking forward to changing my race distances in my bid to qualify for the World Champs in Kona in 2017.”

Similarly to Tom and Mike, Jono’s training schedule involves an exhausting commitment level, with six hours in the pool, 12 hours on the bike and six running - that’s an impressive 24 hours a week over the winter period.

He is all too aware of the need to stay injury-free, having recently sustained a broken toe, and so is very happy to be wearing the On Running shoes as part of his elite racing kit.

He explained: “I’ve been a huge fan of the On shoes since the start of the year, and, as I’ve begun to experiment with long distance racing, they have allowed me to run for further with less recovery.

“I also love the variety and having multiple pairs for different types of training, meaning I wear the right shoes for the right occasions, rather than just making do and overusing one pair. The New Line clothing kit also looks cool, and I can’t wait to race in it next season!

“Although it’s a real challenge not running at the moment due to my injury, and I know I’ll have a steep adaptation curve once I get back into it, I’m using the time to build in my other disciplines.”

The popular Doncaster coach is confident that the exciting new Team Blizard set up will help him to achieve his short and long term racing goals, as well as enable him to put his high quality swimming analysis service into action for his team mates’ benefit, as well as Blizard Physiotherapy’s clients.

He explained: “Next year I aim to medal at the National triathlon championships, as well as put in a competitive performance at the Europeans again, but my main focus for 2016 is to gain experience in longer races, securing good results to spring board me into achieving those all important podium places in 2017.

“I am also looking forward to helping Mike and Tom dominate not only the local race scene, but also make their mark on a national and international stage too.”

Due to popular demand, Jono’s swimming analysis service now has increased availability for swimmers of all abilities, so you too can receive the same attentive and detailed coaching service that Tom and Mike are benefitting from!

We can’t wait to see what this crack team of triathletes can achieve with the support of our hub of sporting excellence at Blizard Physiotherapy - the sky really is the limit for Jono and his athletes!
