Team Blizard are a force to be reckoned with on the racing circuit, with former GB international Dave Tune an integral part of Blizard Physiotherapy’s new competitive team.

Dave has an impressive racing back catalogue, which includes 14 GB vests and world class PB’s which include a 47min clocking for 10m, but it is perhaps his reputation as a top coach and advocate of the benefits of lactate threshold testing and heart rate training that has brought him an even greater deal of respect in recent years.

The Blizard Physiotherapy running coach and lactate threshold test exponent - who boasts an impressive 97% PB success rate for all those who follow their subsequent heart rate training individual schedule - and key member of the clinic’s all-round centre of sporting excellence, is keen to put into practice what he preaches to hundreds of runners every year and prove that lactate training really does pay off.

He said: “Launching Team Blizard has been another exciting chapter here at Blizard Towers, and it is great to be able to support some local athletes with kit and shoes as well as the services we offer here at the clinic.

“On a personal level, I am looking forward to putting myself on the line in races a little more than I have in recent times, and, the fact I am running under the Team Blizard banner is sure to help me push that little bit harder.”

The Tickhill-based V40 athlete has been training in Team Blizard’s chosen shoe range, the On’s, for a while now, and is convinced of their power to help him run more efficiently, with a faster and lighter push off with their shock-absorbing Cloudtec sole, and, crucially for Dave and the rest of the team, their ability to help him recover in between sessions to ensure he is race ready when it matters.

He is keen to advocate the On Running shoes’ outstanding qualities on every level:

“My everyday shoe is now the On Cloudcruiser, which is light enough to feel responsive on the foot but offers hight level of stability, and stand up well to the work we give them under foot, particularly off-road, where we do a lot of our training.

“I like to use my On Cloudsurfers for some of our group’s quicker regular trail or road sessions, or even for faster threshold runs. I would even race a half and full marathon in these - the ‘speed board’ in the midsole gives a very ‘snappy’ feel to every stride, and I actually look forward to wearing this shoe the most in training.

“I wear the On Clouds for out and out tempo work, and, for me, it doubles up as a racing shoe.

I don’t feel I’m light enough to run a 10k in the On Cloudracers, so instead I use them for track sessions, or relatively short road sessions.

“I also wear the Clouds day to day in and around the clinic, and perhaps that goes some way to explain why it is our best selling shoe. It is also the one that looks and feels the best when you first put it on, but, for me, the Cloudsurfer is the most fun to wear and run in, while I do the bulk of my training in the Cloudcruiser.”

Coach Tune will also be looking to implement his own advice regarding respecting the importance of adequate rest, hydration and the right nutrition, as well as ensuring he follows his own heart rate training schedule.

He said: “Training off heart rate really transformed me into a better athlete many moons ago, and those principles still stand. Making sure my whole training program of following the right heart rate zones on each session coupled with sensible nutrition is a simple but key part to continual improvement.”

Dave is confident of racing to his best current potential, as he knows more than anyone that #lactatetrainingpaysoff !
