Whether you are a social swimmer looking to improve your stroke efficiency, a competitive club athlete wishing to maximise your time in the pool to reap the rewards in races, or an elite level triathlete, pushing to get the most out of yourself to dominate in the swim, you need our Swimming Analysis service! Our expert triathlon coaching team use HD filming, heart rate and stroke analysis to help you invest in your greatest asset - you.

This story board will aim to explain exactly what will happen when you book into one of our expertly run and highly competitively priced Swimming Analysis sessions, so you can see for yourselves exactly how we use the two and half hours in the pool and at the Blizard clinic to analyse your technique, current fitness and stroke rate, before using the technical and recorded data to advise you how you can improve and fulfil your potential.

If I book myself a Swimming Analysis session, what do I need to do before I arrive at the pool?

You will be emailed a log book to complete and send back to our coaching team before the session begins. This log book will cover your swimming background, your training and racing PB’s, if applicable, your current training structure, your goals for the future and any past or present injuries.
When we receive your completed log book, it allows us to better understand your current state of fitness and how you presently fit your training into your lifestyle. We aim to help you train smarter to maximise the time you have available to train to achieve your goals efficiently and successfully.

I’ve completed my log book and am now ready for my session - what happens at the pool?

Swimming Analysis under water

You will be asked to arrive at Bircotes swimming pool (you will be sent the full address and directions before the day) 15 minutes before your session starts for a briefing and to get changed.
You will then spend 30 minutes in the pool, kitted out with our swim watch and heart rate monitor before you get in the water.
We will record your current technique in the first part of the session with our HD equipment (under and above the water), while you swim four lengths twice to allow us to get the footage we need.

You will then be asked to ‘race’ 400m, recover and then ‘race 200m’ (or relevant distances). Don’t worry if this sounds very serious, it is all relative to your current fitness and speed.
During this time, we will be monitoring and recording your heart rate, stroke length, stroke rate, distance per stroke and speed, which will be reviewed back at the clinic.

While our equipment monitors what’s going on, the coach will film you to allow us to link the data to actual stroke patterns and real time events, while simultaneously making poolside observations to discuss later, breaking down your stroke to look for strengths and areas to develop.

What happens after I’ve done my swimming in the pool?

We will head back to the clinic to review your current swim training and log book, review your HD video footage, (you’ll get a copy of this on the day), additional pool filming and all the data we’ve captured.

We then begin to build this into a plan and show you through computer simulations and pre-recorded drills what’s relevant for you - we provide links so you can find the drills at a later point.
Our BTF coach will ensure it aligns and works with your overall swimming or triathlon goals and training schedule.

You can then look forward to receiving your completed plan the following day at the latest, after which you can ask our coach about the recorded data, allowing you to then put the swim analysis results into action!
