Here at Blizard Physiotherapy we take your health and fitness very seriously, which is why we are offering an increasingly wide range of free workshops, clinics and events alongside our standard physiotherapy and coaching services.

This is designed to help you get the best out of your body to achieve your potential.

We'd love to hear your suggestions for more classes and workshops to further help you make the most of Blizard's expertise.

Our functional movement classes are a prime example of how you can benefit from our experts’ specialist knowledge of how to become a stronger, more flexible athlete.

These classes focus on stretching, balance, and building up core strength to improve posture, helping those who attend to understand how to stretch properly, and complete strength work, using the correct technique.

A huge number of runners, cyclists, swimmers and triathlete have reaped the rewards of attending these weekly classes - which are currently over-subscribed - including top steeplechaser and cross country runner, Bertie Houghton from Hallamshire, Sheffield’s GB and England international sprinter, Kristie Edwards, aspiring GB age group triathlete, Michael Barnett, and fast improving road runner, Doncaster’s Jo Goodier.

Bertie said that Blizard Physiotherapy’s functional movement classes have really helped him progress, alongside regular physiotherapy from Jenny Blizard:

“The classes are great as they keep me on top of other aspects of strength and conditioning such as glute strength, core and stretching - these are things that can often get neglected, but having a class means that you always get it done.

“They are also run in a very friendly and relaxed atmosphere, so you can have fun whilst doing the exercises!”

Kristie has also seen the benefits of attending the classes, in conjunction with regular treatment at the clinic, helping her to reach her current elite status.

The talented sprinter recently finishing third when representing England in the Indoor International in Vienna over 200m, and credits Blizard with keeping injury at bay, and for helping her to understand how the stretches and exercises she is given will benefit her in training and racing.

She said: “The classes have kept me fit and strong, helping to get me to every competition in the best possible shape.”

A popular local triathlete and coach, Michael relies on remaining fit and strong to enable him to not only get his own training in, but also be on top form to be able to help others achieve their goals.

He explained how the classes have helped correct severe imbalances:

“I started going to a functional movement class at Blizard Physiotherapy after being convinced by Dave Tune that it would lead to benefits with my running. After attending the classes regularly, my ankle instability problem was much improved, so they have had an effect, and if that keeps me injury-free running off-road then it’s fine by me!”

Finally, the increasingly competitive Doncaster athlete, Jo Goodier, has also reaped the rewards of attending the classes.

Jo is very committed to not only staying injury free, but working on her weaknesses to get stronger and faster, and has found the functional movements have helped her to address her ‘weak core, unusual running action and arched back’, which cause issues with her posture.

She has been grateful to learn how to stretch and complete strength work correctly, and has vowed to ‘continue attending the classes to help address my poor balance and core strength leading up this year’s London marathon!’

These four top class athlete are just a few examples of how attending our regular free events, such as our Functional Movement classes, can help you benefit from our vast range of health and well-being expertise.
