About Me

I am David Atkinson and live in Sheffield with my wife. I have been interested in the great outdoors, especially birds since an early age.

I first became interested in photography at secondary school and remember the magic of seeing a photo develop right there in front of me in the darkroom. I, along with thousands of others, bought my first SLR camera a Zenith E in the 1970’s and took many slides with it.

Although I continued to take photos, with a compact digital camera, of family and landscapes about fifteen years ago I began to use an SLR again. I now use a Canon 6D and various 'L' lenses to cover a range of subjects. I also have my first mirrorless camera, the Canon R7 which is superb for wildlife and many other subjects.

Obviously, living on the edge of the Peak District provides me with some wonderful landscape opportunities but I love taking landscapes anywhere. Taking photographs of birds is just a natural extension of my hobby.

In 2008 I attended a small photographic course, but I am mainly self-taught. I have read books, numerous magazines and lots of articles on the web. This has helped both in making full use of the camera but also in learning how to use Photoshop.

I hope you enjoy the images on the site because I loved taking them! Please feel free to leave a comment.
