Originally from Gainsborough in Lincolnshire but now living in Horsforth near Leeds. Brian Reed is a free form artist inspired by the Expressionists of the post-war era. He is always looking for the expressive heart of the subject which he achieves by strong composition structures and radically enhanced contrasts and colours.
Even though his paintings fundamentally remain in the same technique whether in oils, acrylics and mixed media they do seem to occupy an expressionist inbetween world of reality and sometimes abstraction depending on the possibilities in the subject.
Brian works in a wide range of subjects including reflections in still and moving water, cathedrals and abbeys, effects of sun on landscape and buildings, natural rock formations some figure studies and finally abstracted work in any of the above.
